The Adventure Bride’s Guide to Incorporating your Pet into your Adventure Wedding

Hey Adventure Brides!

Today we are talking all about how to incorporate your pet into your adventure wedding/elopement!

One of the things I love the most about adventure weddings is that there are essentially no rules. It is YOUR day and YOU get to decide what YOU want to do, how, and when.

With traditional weddings, most venues do not even allow pets on the premises. While as a former traditional wedding planner I understand their side of things (especially with insurance and liability issues), it still sucks if your best friend can’t be there with you on the best day of your life!

But you’ve chosen to take matters into your own hands and make your own decisions! So here are some fun ways to incorporate your pet into your adventure wedding!

  1. Bring them along on your hike for photos!

From custom collars and harnesses decked out in greenery and florals, to cute little tuxedos for your fur babies, there are lots of cute ways to get some scroll-stopping photos into your photo gallery!

If you are getting married at a national park or some other place that also has a no pet policy, take your getting ready photos with them at your pet-friendly Airbnb or hotel room!

There are wedding professionals out there who specialize in pet care only. Like their entire job at your wedding is to go with the couple and their photographer and watch/care for/entertain your pets. Get with your planner/photographer about finding one near your wedding location, or one who is down to travel!

2. Include them in your announcements

Signs that declare “My Humans Are Getting Married” or “Surprise! My Humans Eloped!” are a fun way to involve your pets into your big news! Not only do these make adorable physical announcements to mail out, but they will definitely get more than a few “awws” on your social media accounts as well.

3. Make a donation to a shelter in their honor

This is a popular new trend amongst couples who have rescued their pets, and I am so glad it is; because what sweeter way to give back to the shelter who cared for your pet before you adopted it than by donating either time or money to help the other pets who are still waiting on their forever homes?!

A little goes a long way at shelters and humane societies; and an act of kindness is an amazing way to start off a new marriage together!

Visit your local shelter’s link online to add it to your wedding registry, and people can donate straight from your wedding website!

4. Custom Accessories

There are many vendors online on sites like Etsy that offer customizable jewelry pieces, cuff links, pocket squares, etc. where you could easily submit a photo of your little bestie and have it made into something special for your day. Be sure to put that on your list of must-have detail shots for your photographer!

5. Cake Toppers/Custom Desserts

If you’re bringing a cake with you on your adventure, why not include a fun cake topper that resembles your fur baby? Those photos will end up turning out super cute, and it is a fun way to include your pet if they are unable to travel with you for whatever reason.

Custom desserts such as kitty shaped cookies, or bird themed cupcakes can be super cute as well, if you have a bakery or individual nearby your location where you can pick them up before you start your adventure! (Obviously this definitely depends on your location, as I don’t think that hiking up a mountain while carrying a bunch of custom cupcakes would be very fun for anyone).

Whatever idea you go with, will turn out cute. Make sure you let your elopement photographer and/or adventure wedding planner know what things are important to you to incorporate on your big day so that details like these I mentioned above are not overlooked or forgotten. They will also more than likely have some fun or different ideas on how to make some of these options (or others I may not have thought of yet) happen for you!

Ok, guys this post was short and sweet this time; but hopefully you got some fun ideas on how to incorporate your pet into your adventure wedding! Happy planning!
