The Adventure Bride’s Guide: The Top 7 Reasons to Book an Adventure Elopement

Hey Adventure Brides!

Today we’re talking about the top reasons to elope - as if you really needed a list, but here it is anyways! It’s no secret that elopements are my favorite wedding style, but let’s talk about the benefits of eloping vs. having a traditional ceremony.

  1. Flexibility

The very first perk of eloping that comes to mind is flexibility. Because there are few to 0 people involved in the elopement process typically, this allows you as a couple to really focus on what is important to you, whether it’s a specific date or a crazy location without having to worry about guests and their opinions/schedules.

You can have a super detailed itinerary if you’re a big planner, or you can literally just dedicate a weekend or week to whatever you both feel like doing in the moment. Either way it will be and feel SO special!

2. Low Stress

Elopements are SO much less stressful than traditional weddings. There are no setbacks such as the venue to telling you your date is not available, or the amazing photographer you want is already booked out 50 years in advance. Maybe the flowers you are super in love with are not in season, or family is already stressing you out asking about accommodations and hotels. Whatever the reason, eloping can really cut down the number of stressful moments in your planning process.

There are no obligations, expectations, or requirements for your elopement. Only the ones that you as a couple (not great Aunt Sally) set for yourselves.

3. Personalization

When you’re eloping, you have the opportunity to make your day as personal or unique as you want to.

You could take an elaborate elopement trip/honeymoon and turn it into a 2 week process, or you could literally do an activity together like go to your favorite coffee shop or pizza parlor.

You could recreate your first date, or you could go hike to an amazing location with a gorgeous landscape.

Whatever, wherever, and however you choose to spend your day is totally up to you, and can hold great sentimental value if you want it to!

4. Amazingly unique photos

Personally, my favorite reason for choosing an adventure elopement is for the epic photos you get along the way!

If you’re looking to stand out from the rest of the wedding crowd in your town, friend group, or family, THIS is the way to do it. Because who else will have photos next to a mountain range in their wedding dress? JUST YOU.

While everyone else complains about the family drama, the amount of money they spent on catering, or the amount of phone calls they’re getting from people traveling into town for the wedding, you can be showing off the most amazing landscapes on your social media.

5. No guest obligations

Another perk of adventure elopements is having 0 guests. While there’s nothing wrong with having a huge 500+ guest wedding if that’s what you’re into, it can be very hard to complete a strict wedding timeline while still having the time to greet everyone present at your wedding.

And at the risk of sounding cheap, I’d personally much rather cough up thousands of dollars for a cool vacation and awesome photos with the love of my life than for a meal for 200 or more people that inevitable, no matter how expensive it is, someone will find something to complain about.

6. Break Tradition!

If you’re looking for a fun way to break some traditions and generational expectations, can I interest you yet in an adventure elopement?!

While you might initially give grandma an anxiety attack when she finds out you intend to get married on the beach rather than in a chapel, she won’t be able to protest when she sees how gorgeous your photos are!

And for the really non-traditional brides, you DON’T HAVE TO WEAR WHITE.

I can’t stress this enough. Wear a color, or get your dress dyed, or purchase a colored dress. Do something to be different and stand out and break those stereotypes set up by the patriarchy. This is your official written permission to go wild, my friends.

7. Escape Reality and Reset in Nature

This might just be my favorite reason for an adventure wedding or elopement.

There is an undeniable calm and inner peace than only nature can provide, especially when you work in a high stress job or a socially demanding position.

How therapeutic is it to get out and breathe in some fresh air and watch a flaming sunset? Now imagine doing that the entire time you’re eloping with your person. And caught on camera? Say less!

If you have the opportunity to say “I do” in a peaceful and therapeutic setting, I can’t imagine choosing to do it any other way!

Anyways, for what it's worth, those are my top 7 reasons to book an adventure elopement!
